Web 6.9
I keep forgetting I should really have a website by now. A one stop shop for Ben Searle - Stand Up Comedian AKA The World of Searle. I’ve got the domain, but at some point I thought it was a good idea to write it myself in HTML instead of shelling out the extra cash for squarespace. I’ve started watching around 15 videos about web development thinking I’ll be able to crack it; I get about 4 minutes in before I want to forcibly remove my head from my body.
I thought I would know enough to build a website from doing HTML on MySpace 18 years ago, but seemingly there is more to it. CSS is the shit that actually makes it look good and I’ll be fucked if I can figure out how to link that up in the back end of my website hosting. Christ, what am I doing?
Every so often I think “I should learn to code, I should build apps”, but unfortunately I’ve had this idea a good 15 years too late. I even started a coding course at some point in 2020. We were all doing crazy stuff back then. Part of me understands the logic behind it, but at some point in tapping away at the computer I start to drift off and consider my life as a woodworker or firefighter.
I started giving ChatGPT a crack after seeing a few tweets about it. ChatGPT is a language based AI system. You prompt it and it generates a response. It’s the first user friendly AI I’ve used; AI for dumb cunts. Initially I asked it stupid questions, but it can write code and I thought I’d use it to write my website. You write in the prompt instructions and it spits it all out. Getting onto my actual website is still a muck around, but it’s still amazing. On the other hand it’s terrifying.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day is my favourite movie. As much as I can seperate real life from fiction, a part of me has always known that Skynet will absolutely come to be. The first time seeing the T-800 foot completely obliterate a human skull, I knew we were doomed. The first time gazing into the ChatGPT abyss, I can feel the uselessness of my flesh weighing me down.
In the end, I abandoned the AI produced HTML (I figure the less work I get it to do, the more kindly it may look upon me when it takes over) and decided to embrace my limited HTML skills for a retro aesthetic.
The link to my godforsaken website is here (under construction)

Last edition I wrote about my upcoming comedy fest show, but now I have the artwork so I wanted to show it off here :) Design and Logo was created by my talented mate Patrick Galvin from Hollow Bones Co. Photo by my friend Nick Lucas from being at the pub.

M3gan
*ON THEME* - “AI is SCARY” is the through-line of this horror flick, but I had a great time watching this, laughing audibly in the cinema a few times. It’s a bit of a muck and pretty self aware. While watching it I did think to myself “Is M3gan scarier than the T-1000?”; I’m unsure. Fun appearance from Ronny Chieng. Worth a look.
That’s it for this edition :)
